| "I want to save lives, including my own, but Cambodians believe we just rent this body. It is just a house for the spirit, and if the house is full of termites, it is time to leave."
Dith Pran, the Cambodian-born journalist whose life of enslavement and escape from the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime in 1979 was the subject of the award-winning film "The Killing Fields," died Sunday, March 30. He was 65. Mr. Dith was portrayed in “Killing Fields” by his fellow Cambodian holocaust survivor, Dr. Haing S. Ngor, who won the Academy Award, Golden Globe and numerous other acting awards for his performance. We of the Dr. Haing S. Ngor Foundation join the rest of the world in mourning Dith Pran – a courageous human rights activist until his death – and we offer heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. |
